The Kente cloth could be traced back to 3000 B.C. in its development and
at one time the official Royal wear of the Asante Kingdom of Ghana. The
authentic Kente cloth, displayed here, is hand made and until recently
not affordable by the common person and is still regarded as a sign of
cultural sophistication and nobility. The patterns and motifs are
sometimes designed to have some significance or meaning to the person
for whom it was made.
